Brian Van Wyk:

On March 26th 2010 I bought my first DSLR (yes, I sound obsessed, and yes, that would be a very accurate assumption). This means I just had my anniversary. I had no idea that in my second year of adventuring through the world of photography that I would see the things I saw, and be able to collect those experiences they way I did.

I found myself at wedding ceremonies. I found myself in that tight space between Rock Stars and thousands of fans. I found myself amidst the chaos of the Vancouver riots. I found myself observing people in love, in disorder, in triumph, celebration, hopelessness…ecstasy. I found myself observing society. I found myself making friends and taking risks. I found myself in places I never thought I would.

I found myself.

Love seeing someone blog this. Thank you, alforonething. If you want to see the pictures I was writing about, click on the picture to take you there.

This is my friend, Brian. He’s a photographer, and a great one at that. Click the image to see some of his work. :)

(Reblogged from brianvanwyk)

These are some pictures for a project for photography class. I photographed jello from underneath a glass shelf, and it was pretty fun to do as well. The only problem is that I don’t know which of these to get printed for wednesday, just one really big one, or a few smaller ones, or what. Any thoughts?

Bleached black and white print, from my portfolio for photography class.

This is a positive/negative pinhole photo that I took using a camera made out of a whiskey can with two holes poked in it, some black paint, and two small pieces of an aluminum pie plate. Since it had two holes, I did two separate exposures in different areas. In the top part of the image, you can see a faint outline of my ghost-looking self.

Two of my classmates/friends and I went out to an art opening with our classmates for one of our photo technicians, Mike, that some of us helped out with. Afterwards we went out dancing for a ladies’ night and stayed at a hotel downtown. On the left is Justine, and on the right of me is Katie. I look extra pale in this one, but that was a really fun night.

Art students gone wild: Tea Party HARD

These are a few of the pictures from a photo shoot that my classmate Tom did, where the idea was a group of people partying only with the alcohol and other related substances replaced with tea and such.

Also, this.

For some odd reason, this is the first picture that I decided to make a print out of from my black and white negatives. Creepy gnome, anyone?

My very first ever pinhole photo, taken using a “camera” made of only a shoebox, some black paint, some duct tape, and a piece of pie plate with a hole in it.

My first pinhole photograph (negative). Today in class, we made cameras out of shoe boxes, paint, tape, and a piece of pie plate. Tomorrow I will make a print of the positive image.

I took this earlier today in a park near my house. I loved the checkered pattern that the sun was making.
